Team

The individual team that consists of a single Principal Investigator and other individuals, members of the team.

Team members

Investigators contributing to an ERC-funded project under the scientific guidance of the Principal Investigator.

Third country

A State that is not a Member State of the European Union.

Third party

Generally, beneficiaries shall implement the project and shall have the necessary resources to that end. However, it is accepted that exceptionally and only if the Grant Agreement provides accordingly, certain parts of the work may be carried out by third parties or made available as resources by a third party to a beneficiary, A subcontractor is a type of third party.
Costs incurred by third parties in relation to resources they have made available to the beneficiary can be declared as eligible direct costs by the beneficiary provided they meet the conditions for costs to be eligible. Where one participant needs the services of another beneficiary in order to perform part of the work, it is the second beneficiary who declares and charges the costs for that work.

Thresholds (Evaluation procedure)

For a proposal to be considered for funding, the evaluation scores for the individual criteria must exceed certain thresholds. There is also an overall threshold for the sum of all scores that needs to be reached before the proposal is eligible for funding.

Two-step evaluation

At the ERC, a single submission procedure is followed by a two-step evaluation. At Step1, only section 1 of the proposal will be assessed. At Step 2, the complete version of the retained proposals will be assessed.
