The ERC Dedicated Implementation Structure has be legally established as an Executive Agency and will be fully operational by the beggining of 2009. Until then, a dedicated service of the European Commission has the task of building up the operational capacities and management of the ERC funding activities.

The recruitment for the ERC Executive Agency involves various categories of staff (see below) as it requires many different functions and areas of expertise. The ERC is dedicated to excellence in research and in all aspects of its work, and seeks to attract excellent, highly-motivated people with the right qualifications and expertise. 1. Categories of staff and vacancies

Temporary Agents (TA)

There will be two types of Temporary Agents, those seconded from the Commission and those externally hired:

  • Temporary Agents Seconded from the Commission in the interests of the Service (TA-S): These Temporary Agents will be engaged in high responsibility positions in management or related areas. These posts are reserved for officials of the European Communities.
  • TA externally hired (TA-E): The Temporary Agents externally hired will be selected and engaged in responsible positions in key scientific , operational and administrative posts. General information and conditions of employment can be found here.

Temporary agent selection results


Contract Agents (CA)

Contract Agents will be selected from the database of the European Selection Personnel Office (EPSO) for the technical, financial, secretarial and logistical jobs.

  • Contract Agents in Function Group IV (CA-GFIV): will be engaged in administrative, audit, advisory and equivalent technical tasks of supervisory nature, performed under the supervision of senior Temporary Agents.
  • Contract Agents in Function Group III (CA-GFIII): will be engaged in executive, drafting, budgeting, accountancy, control and other equivalent technical tasks, performed under the supervision of Temporary Agents.
  • Contract Agents in Function Group II (CA-GFII): will be engaged in clerical, secretarial, recurrent accountancy, office management and other equivalent tasks, performed under the supervision of Temporary Agents.
  • Contract Agents in Function Group I (CA-GFI): will be engaged in manual and administrative support service tasks, performed under the supervision of Temporary Agents.

Vacancies will be filled from the existing European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) lists available. In order to be considered for a CA position, you must have passed the EPSO tests for CA and your name must appear in the database. Contract agents in the ERC Executive Agency will be offered a '3a' type of contract. Important! To be considered eligible applicants must be on an EPSO database for contractual agents for an appropriate profile.

There are no vacancies currently for Contractual Agent positions

Seconded National Experts (SNE)

Seconded National Experts (SNEs) may include employees of government agencies or institutions of higher education, and other eligible organizations in instances where such secondment would be considered beneficial to the organizations involved. They will assist, through their expertise, in the execution of high level tasks. Please inform your national Permanent Representation to the EU if you wish to join our team. Trainees

Once the executive agency will be settled, it is foreseen to offer five-month period of in-service training ('stages') for training people who have recently obtained a university diploma and who wish to acquire an understanding of our work and gain work experience in one of the ERC's departments, similar to the traineeship offered by the Commission. Trainees will offer support on technical, financial and scientific matters. More information about traineeship in the Commission can be found here.   


2. Indicative recruitment planning

At present a massive selection / recruitment process is ongoing, following the publication of different positions: 17 TA-S; 80 TA-E; 127 CA. For the moment there are no publications foreseen for these categories.

For Seconded National Experts it is planned to publish soon 2 policy expert positions.


 

3. Conditions of Employment

The ERC is an Executive Agency of the European Commission. Therefore, staff conditions are covered by Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Communities. The ERC will be adopting implementing rules for these regulations.
