This year the ERC will reach an important milestone: soon 10 000 scientists and scholars from Europe and beyond will have received ERC funding to pursue their best ideas at the frontiers of knowledge. During an online ceremony, the ERC will welcome the 10 000th grantee and will highlight a few other ERC grantees who, in different ways, have contributed to transform science and research.

The Estonian Research Council, the State Education Development Agency of the Republic of Latvia and the Research Council of Lithuania, together with the European Research Council have organised this Information Day that will offer participants a chance to meet the people “behind the ERC”.
The aim of the event is to encourage researchers to apply, offering them the tailored information, debunking myths, and introducing everyone to other grantees and their experiences. From the people who organise the evaluations, all the way down to successful grantees, participants will have the chance to get to know the ERC and demystify perceptions.
The day will also include a capacity building workshop, aimed at informing research managers and officers from research institutions about the best ways to support potential ERC applicants.
The ERC, EU Delegation to the US and EURAXESS will jointly hold an event with the University of Illinois on Horizon Europe- the EU’s research and innovation funding program which, in addition to funding collaborative research projects, will offer opportunities to individual researchers. ERC grants will be open to researchers from public and private organizations who would like to spend time in Europe regardless of their nationalities, careers stage, or field of research.
Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, President of the European Research Council (ERC), will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s meeting “Davos Agenda” that is taking place virtually from 25-29 January. He will notably speak in a live-streamed issue briefing on “Improving Science Literacy” on 28 January.
