Four top scientists, all part of the World Economic Forum's Young Scientists Programme, including ERC grantees Gerardo Adesso and Fabio Sciarrino, share their experiences in this opinion piece. They call for openness in order to let scientists change research directions of their research. Alongside e.g. Bill & Melina Gates foundations, Howard Hugh Medival Institutes etc., the ERC is cited as a funding body that supports innovation and allows scientists to pivot their research and explore new paths, achieving higher impact.
