Space has a wealth of resources for humanity. Scientific missions enable new discoveries and increase knowledge of our solar system. Satellites orbiting around the Earth provide us with a broad range of services for telecommunications, weather forecasting, marine and air traffic, forest mapping, etc. However, intense space activity comes at a cost both in terms of energy consumption and dangerous space debris produced.
Some people are in great shape at the age of 90, while others feel unfit before they are 50. How fast people age is not really linked to how old they actually are — and has a lot to do with their lifestyle. A new study led by Prof. Francesco Ferraro, Advanced grantee of the European Research Council (ERC), reveals that the same is true of star clusters. This groundbreaking discovery was made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and is featured this week in the renowned scientific journal Nature.
The first cultivated plants in south-western Europe date back to the first half of the 6th millennium BC. Farmers in this region cultivated a wide variety of crops which included cereals and legumes, as well as other crops such as flax and poppy. They also collected wild plants. Yet, available data from this area is scarce and unevenly distributed across the territory: with blank regions, like northern Morocco, where archaeobotanical data is still almost non-existent.
