Magdalena Winiarska
Magdalena Winiarska
Assistant professor in the Department of Immunology, University of Warsaw

Magdalena Winiarska was awarded a PhD by the Medical University of Warsaw in 2008 and DSc in 2018. For many years she was involved in the research on antitumor activity of anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies. These studies have led to the identification of hitherto undescribed mechanisms of regulation of CD20. Currently, she supervises the research group located at the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute that takes an effort to enhance the potency and to translate into the clinic the immunotherapies utilizing chimeric antigen receptors (CAR). Her team searches for novel antigens and optimizes CAR vectors to ensure the selective activity of effector cells against the tumor. She has secured funding in several grants funded by Polish (National Science Centre, National Centre for Research and Development) and European (ERC Starting Grant) institutions. During her career, she was a mentor of more than 20 graduate students and supervisor of five PhD students.
