Leader of a research group on Earth System Data Exploration in the Division of Federated Systems and Data of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. He develops AI methods for the analysis of air quality and weather data and web services and performant data infrastructures for Earth System Data. His primary research objective is the development and application of modern deep learning methods to Earth System Data, i.e. weather, air quality and climate data. He was also Chair of Scientific Advisory Group on reactive gases at World Meteorological Organisation. He is the PI for the ERC AdG IntelliAQ.
