Sofia Aboim (PhD Sociology Iscte-IUL, 2004) is an Associate Research Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She has been involved in numerous national and international research projects. She was awarded a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (CoG 615594). She is currently PI of the project Race Trouble: Decolonising Race and Racial Inequality, funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation. Sofia's current research covers a wider range of issues, ranging from gender inequalities to intersections with migration and race/ethnicity in Portugal, Europe and the postcolonial world. These themes are reflected in Sofia's previous publications (9 books, 38 journal articles and more than 50 book chapters) as well as in her current work. Sofia's most recent publications include numerous academic articles, two edited volumes and a monograph (forthcoming 2023, Routledge) on the social and political transformations of gender relations and struggles for gender justice. Although based in Portugal, Sofia has also worked abroad. She has been a visiting researcher and guest lecturer at the University of Lausanne, the University Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo, the University of Tallinn and the Centre of Gender Excellence (GEXcel), Linkoping University in Sweden. Since 2018, she is a regular member of the ERC evaluation panels. Since 2021 she is editor-in-chief of AnĂ¡lise Social and a member of the board of Men & Masculinities.
