New director of the ERC Executive Agency

The European Commission has appointed Laurence Moreau as director of the European Research Council (ERC) Executive Agency, the implementing arm of the ERC.

Laurence Moreau holds a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Nantes, France. At the ERC Executive Agency, she has been a head of unit, head of department and, from 1 January 2022, the acting director of the Agency.

Before joining the Agency in 2016, she worked in the Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation, the Research Executive Agency, and the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Affairs. Her appointment as director of ERC Executive Agency is for an initial period of four years.

The ERC is led by an independent Scientific Council that sets the scientific funding strategy. The Executive Agency supports the Scientific Council, implements its strategy, organises the peer review evaluations, and manages the scientific and financial aspects of grants, amongst other things. The ERC Executive Agency employs some 500 staff members.
