Cristina Valdiosera is a Mexican researcher and a pioneer in the application of archaeogenomics in Mexico and Latin America. Her work, which utilizes ancient DNA to study the history of populations, focuses on unravelling complex migration patterns and the mixing of both historical and prehistoric populations. She is currently a researcher at the University of Burgos and the National Research Center on Human Evolution (CENIEH) in Spain, where she directs the UBU-CENIEH transversal group for Molecular Archaeology. In this capacity, she leads an ERC Advanced project, focusing on the complex histories of pre-Hispanic populations, the impact of contact with Europeans and the formation of mestizaje (ancestry mixing) in Mexico.
