Elena Hofferberth
Elena Hofferberth is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability of the University of Lausanne. She is member of the ERC-funded project “REAL – A Post-Growth Deal” and the core researcher of the SNIS-funded project “CliMacro: Alternative Macro-Financial Frameworks for Climate-Just and Post-Growth Futures”. In her research, Elena explores the macro-financial and political economy conditions for a post-growth economy as well as concrete measures to get there. This includes specific policy interventions and proposals for deeper structural change, covering monetary-fiscal coordination, industrial policy and democratic ecological planning. Elena has published on these issues in the journal Ecological Economics, the Journal of Cleaner Production and Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy, amongst others. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Leeds.
Through her research, Elena seeks to contribute to a social-ecological transformation of both the economy and economics. For that purpose, she has engaged with various communities inside and outside of academia, e.g. the International Network for Democratic Economic Planning, the network for Rethinking Economics and the Post Growth Institute where she is an affiliate fellow. Elena is a member of the Lausanne ecological economics Lab, the European Society for Ecological Economics, the Sustainable Money Research Group and the international Post-Growth Economics Network.
