Dr. Alban Kellerbauer is an experimental physicist with over 20 years of research experience, spanning fundamental nuclear and particle physics as well as nuclear medicine. He studied in Germany and Canada and earned his Ph.D. from CERN in Geneva.

Since 2008, he has worked at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he has held various leadership roles. In 2023, he became Assistant to the Director of the JRC’s Nuclear Safety and Security directorate and Programme Manager, helping steer strategic direction and overseeing the multi-annual work programme.

In 2011, Alban was awarded an ERC Starting Grant, which he carried out at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg—gaining valuable insight into the ERC from a grantee’s perspective.

His scientific expertise includes mass spectrometry, laser spectroscopy, antimatter physics, ion diagnostics and imaging, and medical physics.

Alban also contributes actively to the academic community as Editor-in-Chief of the European Review (Cambridge University Press), a member of the Academia Europaea, and Chair of the Advisory Council of the Young Academy of Europe since 2019.
