Andrew Swarts is currently employed as Associate Professor within the School of Chemistry at University of the Witwatersrand. Andrew obtained his Ph.D. in 2013 from Stellenbosch University, working with Prof Selwyn Mapolie in homogeneous catalysis. He moved to North-West University (NWU) in 2014, where he was most recently employed as Associate Professor (2020-2021). During his time at NWU he established a research niche within the Catalysis and Synthesis Research Group focused on benign catalytic transformations. He joined the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in April 2021. He served as national committee member of the Catalysis Society of South Africa (2018-2019), Group Leader of the Catalysis and Synthesis Research Group (2018-2021), Management Committee Member of the Research Focus Area: Chemical Resource Beneficiation (2018-2021) and Member of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Faculty Board (2018-2020). He has recently completed a specialisation, Fundamentals of Management, as part of a growing interest to contribute to institutional strategic goals at a managerial level.
