Christina Papageorgopoulou
Christina Papageorgopoulou is a Professor at the Department of Humanities at the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini, Greece. She completed her PhD at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and her Master at the University of Florence (Italy). She has worked as a Humboldt Post doctorate Fellow at the Johannes Guttenberg University of Mainz (Germany) and as a senior researcher at the University of Zurich (Switzerland).
She is the Director of the Laboratory of Biological Anthropology and the Institute of Bioarchaeological Research in DUTH. She leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers working in the fields of paleodiet, paleodemography, paleogenetics, 3D digitisation and visualisation and new computational tools. She has published scientific articles in leading international journals (e.g. CELL, PNAS) and has coordinated several interdisciplinary research projects. She was recently awarded the highly competitive funding from the European Research Council of 2 million euros for the research Project CityLife. The main objective of CityLife is to investigate the interaction of social, biological, environmental and historical processes that led to the universal prevalence of urbanism.
