Investigating, understanding, explaining, improving, designing, testing, modelling and developing construction materials is what I do. I am Professor of Experimental Micromechanics at Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands. I am part of the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, department Materials, Mechanics, Management and Design (3MD).

The topics I work on with my group are self-healing materials, (micro-)mechanics of materials, discrete element modelling, development of smart construction materials and additive manufacturing and in particular 3D printing of concrete. For this research we have high tech testing facilities in our Microlab.
