Francesca Calegari

Professor at the University of Hamburg and Lead Scientist at DESY

Francesca Calegari leads the Attosecond Science group at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) Research Centre. She is also Professor of Physics at the University of Hamburg. She is widely recognized for her key contributions in advancing attosecond technology and her pioneering studies in attosecond chemistry. Among other distinctions, she received the ICO Prize and the Ernst Abbe Medal from the International Commission of Optics, she was awarded two ERC grants and she is a Fellow of Optica. Calegari serves as chair of the PIER Executive Board – the central strategic partnership between DESY and the University of Hamburg – and she is a speaker of the cluster of excellence “Advanced Imaging of Matter”, a major research programme in Hamburg.
