Ilona Riipinen is a professor in atmospheric science at Stockholm University, Sweden, and a director of the Bolin Centre for Climate Research. She studies atmospheric composition, in particular particulate matter and clouds, and their interactions, often in the context of their role in the climate system or effects on air quality and human health.
She has published over 170 peer-reviewed research articles that have been cited over 15,000 times. Among her honors is the Göran Gustafsson Prize in Physics for her achievements.
