José Labastida

Former Head of the 'Support to the Scientific Council' unit, ERCEA

Jose Labastida is the Head of the 'Support to the Scientific Council' unit of the European Research Council (ERC) since February 2021. He held the position of Head of the Scientific Management Department in the same organisation since 2011. Before joining the ERC he was Secretary General for Science and Technology Policy and Director General for Research of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (2008-2011). Previously he was Vice-president for Research of the Spanish National Research Council (2004-2008). In his previous life he was a Researcher and Professor of Theoretical Physics occupying positions at the Institute for Advanced Study, CERN, and the University of Santiago de Compostela. He holds a PhD in Physics from Stony Brook University.
