Manas Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanics of the Ecole Polytechnique (France) and a researcher in the Solid Mechanics Laboratory (LMS) of Ecole Polytechnique and CNRS. He obtained his PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) in 2014 and he did his post-doctoral research at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland) until 2018 before joining Ecole Polytechnique. His general research interest is in understanding microstructure formation and evolution in alloys under complex thermo-mechanical loadings via an experiment-modeling synergy. His current research interests involve studying microstructure evolution during metal additive manufacturing. He was recently awarded EU’s Horizon2020 ERC Starting Grant (# 946959), which allowed him to build his own research group, the MoSES group, at LMS. At Ecole Polytechnique, he has taught courses at the bachelor and engineering cycle (equivalent to Master’s) levels including mechanics and heat (bachelors), continuum mechanics, plasticity, among others. He has been awarded the Scripta Materialia Outstanding reviewer award in 2017. More recently, he has been awarded the Jean et André Rist 2022 medal by the French Society of Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M), which will be presented to him in December 2022.
