Maria Charisi is an astrophysicist focusing on supermassive black holes and gravitational waves. She received her BSc in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and her PhD in astronomy from Columbia University in New York. After completing two post-doctoral fellowships at Caltech and Vanderbilt, she joined the faculty at Washington State University. She was awarded an ERC Starting Grant in 2023 to build a research group at the Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology —Hellas. Recently, she was also awarded the “For Women in Science Award” from L’ Oreal-UNESCO Greece.
