Milen Bogdanov

Milen Bogdanov is an Organic Chemistry professor at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia, Bulgaria. His expertise lies in Organic and Physical Organic Chemistry. His research mainly focuses on synthesizing new biologically active compounds and conducting in vitro studies to assess their biological activity. He also works on creating and utilising ionic liquids as alternative solvents for analytical procedures, purification, and the isolation of biologically active substances from plants. Currently, his research group is dedicated to developing and studying metabolic modulators—particularly inhibitors of fatty acid oxidation—for potential therapeutic uses in ischemic heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The group additionally investigates the synthesis and testing of aromatase inhibitors as possible cancer treatments and develops analytical methods for detecting metabolites in unconventional matrices, such
as hair, nails, and skin.
