Nikolay Vitanov

Academician Nikolay Vitanov was the Deputy Rector of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" for Research and Scientific Project Activities (2015-2023), as well as the Deputy Dean (2011-2015) of the Faculty of Physics. He has been a member of the Academic Council of Sofia University since 2011.  He is scientific director of the Center for Quantum Technologies at the Faculty of Physics in Sofia University and professor of Quantum Information and Quantum Optics at the Faculty of Physics, Sofia University. 

His main scientific interests are in the field of quantum technologies. He specialised and was an invited professor at universities in Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Finland and Denmark.

Academician Vitanov has over 250 publications in renowned journals with a high impact factor with about 12,000 citations, with a Hirsch index of 52.

In the Stanford ranking of scientists in the world, he is placed in the top 200 in the field of "General Physics". He has managed 10 projects under the European Union Framework Programmes and 5 major national projects.
