It will bring together more than 1,500 participants from 90 countries to share strategies and solutions and discuss global issues and risks. The New Champion communities – including Global Growth Companies, Young Global Leaders, Young Scientists, Technology Pioneers, Social Entrepreneurs and the World Economic Forum’s youngest community, the Global Shapers – will once again engage with Forum Members and Partners during the seventh Annual Meeting of the New Champions, to be held from 11-13 September in Dalian, People’s Republic of China. This year’s theme is “Meeting the Innovation Imperative”.

The World Economic Forum is an independent international organisation committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

ERC participation

The ERC will actively participate in sessions and debates. ERC President Prof. Helga Nowotny, as well as Nobel laureate Sir Tim Hunt and Prof. Alain Peyraube, both ERC Scientific Council members, will speak at the forum. This year, six outstanding ERC grantees will also represent the ERC; Wolf Prize winner Prof. Dr. Peter Zoller, Prof. Nicole Grobert, Prof. Valeria Nicolosi, Prof. Jeremy O’ Brien, Prof. Hele Savin, Prof. Wilfried Weber. They are working in areas of research ranging from nano-materials, photonics, optics to health, IT technology and energy storage. See biographies here.

Press

On 12 Sep. 2013 at 10.00-10.30, the ERC will also hold a press conference, “The European Research Council - from frontier research to innovation” (Dalian International Conference Center - Press conference room). Speakers: ERC President Helga Nowotny, Nobel laureate Sir Tim Hunt and Prof. Alain Peyraube. (The six ERC grantees will also be present)
