The ERC Advanced Grant 2026 call closed for applications on 28 August 2026. These are the preliminary data on the submitted proposals:
- The ERC received 3 458 proposals - 3.9% more than last year and 37% compared to the year before.
- The highest number of applications were submitted in Physical Sciences and Engineering (1 439), followed by Life Sciences (1 033), and Social Science and Humanities (986).
- Women submitted 866 proposals (25%), similar share as in the last call.
In its Work Programme 2026, the ERC earmarked €747 million for an estimated 294 Advanced Grants. The ERC is now starting the evaluation of the proposals. The selected projects will likely be announced in the spring of 2027.
ERC Advanced Grants are designed to support for excellent researchers at the career stage when they are already established leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements. The principal investigators must demonstrate the ground‐breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their research proposal.
