Professor Bikard received an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2021 and is currently working on genetic editing of the gut microbiome. His research focuses on developing engineered phage vectors and CRISPR-based tools to enable in situ genetic perturbation of gut bacteria. These technologies aim to support targeted therapeutic strategies by allowing precise, in vivo modifications of microbial communities in the gut.
The EMBO Gold Medal rewards researchers under the age of 40 for outstanding contributions to the life sciences in Europe. The award includes a gold medal and a €10 000 bursary.
