
The ERC Advanced Grants 2018 closed for applications on 30 August 2018. These are the preliminary data on submitted proposals:
- This year the ERC received 2,052 applicants, compared to 2,166 in 2017 and 2,404 in 2016 competitions.
- The number of applicants remains however slightly higher than in the 2015 competition (1,953).
- The highest number of applications was submitted in the domain of Physical Sciences and Engineering (905), followed by Life Sciences (616), and Social Science and Humanities (531).
- More than 19% of proposals were submitted by women – a slightly higher number than in the previous years (18% in 2017, 16.5% in 2016)
The ERC Work Programme has earmarked €450 million for an estimated 194 Advanced Grants in 2018. The ERC is now starting evaluation of the proposals. The selected projects will be announced in spring 2019.
ERC Advanced Grants are designed to support excellent scientists in any field at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements in the last ten years.
