The ERC Scientific Council will gather in Durham for its next plenary meeting 23-25 June. This is the first time the ERC governing body convenes in the UK since the ERC was set up by the EU in 2007.

Hosted by the University of Durham, the visit is an opportunity for the Scientific Council to meet ERC grantees and the research community, as well as policy-makers, in addition to the plenary session. The Minister for Research, Lord Vallance, will take part remotely in part of the programme.

There will be a roundtable with Vice Chancellor of the Northern England region (N8), representatives from funding bodies -  British Academy, Royal Academy, UKRI – and others.

An ERC Seminar with grantees and stakeholders, organised by the University of Durham, takes place on 23 June. During the event ERC-funded project will be showcased.

The ERC Scientific Council, led by Professor Maria Leptin, comprises 22 eminent scientists and scholars, including Professor Harriet Bulkeley from Durham University’s Department of Geography.
