The Scientific Council Working Group on Strengthening International participation, initially created at the Scientific Council meeting held in Warsaw (June 2009), focuses on increasing the participation of researchers in ERC calls from countries outside of the EU.
In 2012 the ERC launched an international awareness-raising campaign, "ERC goes Global", led by the ERC Secretary General Prof. Donald Dingwell. It started in Canada on the occasion of the “American Association for the Advancement of Science” (AAAS) conference, and continued with visits to countries in North and South America, South Africa, Russia, and Asia. More countries such as India, China, New Zealand and Australia were visited during the course of 2013.
